This past Saturday, the Butter Yeezy 350 Boost v2 dropped. Initially, I was not a fan of the colorway. I thought it was tacky, I thought it was a reach, and just another cash grab. On top of that, I’m still holding out for the Sesame colorway to drop. So, this past weekend, when the shoe was slated to drop, I didn’t think anything of it and kept about my merry way.
It’s Saturday morning and I ma lounging in my bed, trying to figure out stuff for the brand, because that’s what you do when you have passion projects and stuff. As I lay there, eyes closed, strategizing about the next post to write*, a call reaches my phone. It’s my dude Jared:
“Yo, bro, do you want the Butter Yeezys?”
“Uh…the Butter Yeezys? They dropped already?”
“Yeah, do you want a pair? I can get you a pair.”
Before I go any further, understand that in this moment, I had never been so close to obtaining a pair of Yeezys. I was going to be able to get my hands on a pair, finally. And this was my chance. Whether it be by Kanye’s vision of making Yeezy’s more available, or just because my man Jared has the solid plug like that, I was seconds away from making history in my rotation. The clock is ticking. I can’t hold Jared on the phone forever.
“Yeah, hold me a pair.”
“Alright, solid. If they have size 13, I’ll scoop you a pair.”
“Bet. Thanks.”
I couldn’t believe it. I had copped some Yeezys, finally. I was finally going to join the Yeezy club. Imagine all the Instagram posts I could’ve made. But my joy and happiness was not for long, as I later had a change of heart and texted Jared to not get the pair for me. The Yeezys were right there.
“If you haven’t bought the Yeezys yet, don’t worry about it, I don’t need them.”
“Ah, I feel you. All good.”
I had them. And then I didn’t have them. Why did I tell Jared to cancel? It was a matter of circumstance: For starters, I didn’t need the Yeezy, and the Butter colorway in particular didn’t stand out to me like that initially. Second, there was going to be a lot of money spending in the following weeks, as well as a lot of money being spent before the release. As such, I didn’t need to incur any extra unnecessary expenses. Third, and thanks to my friend Joseph, my rotation doesn’t need the hype that came with that sneaker. And if I were to get it, I should at least get a colorway I’d really want. All things considered, I passed on them. As with the Frozen Yellow colorway, the more I look at them, the more I start to like them, but I still don’t feel like I missed out. This is all contingent on the idea that the Sesame colorway drops, of course.
